(Please submit via WebCT or e-mail <profmcohen@gmail.com> by Wed., Oct. 4)

(Note:  I know the room was very crowded, and from some areas of the room and outside it was practically impossible to hear.  I am therefore attaching links to a few short articles by Dr. Menashri that cover some of what he said for those of you who had difficulty hearing the talk on Sept. 27.*

Responses should be about a paragraph in length.

1.   Dr. Menashri spoke of continuity and change in the Middle East.  One change since the end of the Cold War, he said, was that none of the three major Middle Eastern powers was Arab.  What did he mean?  Do you agree?.

  1. Dr. Menashri said that the Iraq war had been a “gift” to  Iran.  Explain.

  1. Why does Dr. Menashri think that Iran’s president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has been making provocative and threatening statements about Israel and the holocaust?

  1. Overall, what did you find most informative about this lecture?  What would you have liked the speaker to discuss about the topic that he didn’t?
